TULLAHOMA, TN (August 17, 2020) - Tennova Healthcare – Harton is the first in this region to perform their neurosurgery procedures using a surgical navigation system designed to help surgeons perform accurate procedures in the operating room. The system offers the most advanced technology – a combination of medical-grade hardware, software and specialized instruments – for neurosurgery and spine procedures.
“We are very excited to add this high level of technology at Tennova Healthcare – Harton to enhance our surgical patient care.” stated Rich Ellis, Chief Executive Officer of Tennova Healthcare – Harton. “This is a significant move forward for our neurosurgery program. Our patients will benefit because the neurosurgeon and the whole surgical team have real-time data during the surgery which allows for even greater accuracy in treatment.”
This technology has been used in surgical suites for many years and assisted in millions of procedures throughout the country. The new version enhances previous models with intuitive new software interfaces, high-definition touchscreen monitors and advanced imaging capabilities that allow the surgeon to use pre-operative diagnostic data during the surgery. It also offers surgical planning components, so the surgeon can load and review pre-operative information to assess the procedure and anatomical steps before the patient even enters the surgical suite.
Tullahoma’s only neurosurgeon, Seyed M. Emadian M.D., Ph.D., FAANS, shares, “When I joined the medical staff at Harton in June of 2002, I was Coffee County’s first neurosurgeon. At that time, an earlier version of this equipment was one of the pieces in the Neurosciences Center of the hospital.” Emadian adds, “This new system installed by Harton will allow our team to continue to provide the most advanced neurological surgical care here close to home. This is a significant investment in our neurosciences service line and in the level of care for our patients and community.”
